I’ve become a vacation-a-holic

My name is Rebecca Cousins and I am a vacation-a-holic. There I said it, and admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery right?

I honestly did not set out to take this path during this holiday season. I was going strong, feeling motivated and actually ahead of the game for 2012. I was feeding off the busyness of filling last minute orders, finishing up my Christmas list and preparing for a house full of guests.  Then it happened (insert tire screeching sounds here) — I got a taste of what it is like to relax!

It wasn’t easy at first. I had to force myself to quit working, unplug, and focus only on myself and family. I think my body actually went into shock the first few days! I paced around the house A LOT, not quite sure what to do with myself. Thank goodness for having family in town, and Christmas celebrations to distract me because I am not sure I could have survived those first few days of “slowing down”.

Then something strange happened. I started to like not running 1000 miles a minute. Staying in my PJ’s most of the day has become the norm, and my hair and a brush may need some help getting reacquainted when this is all over. I have started to enjoy this new lifestyle, maybe a little too much!

This is where the problem sets in. Christmas is over, the houseguests are all gone, and we are halfway into what should be a work week, and yet here I am, feeling more unmotivated than ever! The only thing I have on my mind at this moment is playing board games with my kids, and soaking up time with my hubby while he is off of work for the next week. Sure orders are being filled and business is running as usual, however, all the extra stuff (i.e. twitter, Facebook, and this blog) might just be put on hold a little longer. I am planning on entering a vacation-a-holics anonymous program ASAP, and with your support and understanding I should make a full recovery soon! In the meantime, I hope that you are able to take time to slow down and enjoy the gift of family and friends this holiday season.  Being a vacation-a-holic isn’t completely without perks {wink}!

So I don’t leave you hanging, I am going to be reposting some my favorite posts of 2011 over the next few days. Happy Holidays!

It’s The Little Things…

One of the many reasons I love the Christmas season, is the extra time I get to spend enjoying my family.  The kids are done with extracurricular actives, I am not spending weekends at craft shows, and the cold weather keeps us home more.  I love the opportunity to slow down, to spend weekends in our pajamas playing board games or crafting, and having more time to appreciate life’s special moments.  It can be very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  I find when I take time to appreciate the “little things”, those moments are what build the greatest memories, and make the holiday season so much fun!

Tasty treats found only this time of year!

The first sip of coffee in the morning from my favorite mug!

Annual traditions with my family such as making gingerbread houses, decorating sugar cookies, and delivering goodies to our neighbors!

A super cute co-worker who keeps me company all day! :)

Crafting with my children and teaching them the value of handmade gifts.

What are the little things you treasure during the day, week, or holiday season?

Shop Update

Is it Monday again already? How does the weekend fly by so quickly? I think we should move to a two day work week and five day weekend. Who is with me on that? :)

So if you follow me on Facebook and Twitter you may have already heard the news about my humble little shop. It is growing! Woohoo! I have been working like mad behind the scenes to add two new shops to my website. Along with the craft kits for kids, you will now find an area featuring handmade gifts, home decor, and accessories and {coming soon} I will also be carrying craft supplies! Freckles Crafts will now be a one stop shopping destination!

Here is a look at the new homepage

Isn’t it purdy?  I love the simplicity of the design and how easy it is to access each shopping are.  Just click on a photo where you will be magically transported to your shopping destination.  And to make it even easier each shop is linked to one another.  So if you are shopping for craft kits and decide you need a handmade gift as well, no problem!  Just link to that area from the sidebar and all of your items will be placed into one cart.  Easy Peasy!

So please stop by and look around. I have added new craft kits and new handmade items to the store (more handmade coming daily as I have time to photograph items and get them posted).  Here is a sampling of what you will find so far:

Rings, rings, and more rings!

Ruffled Flower Pins {aren’t the turquoise and red ruffles super cute?}
