Lunchbox Makeover by Scissors and Spatulas {guest post}

Hey y’all, my name is Jen!
I’m a mommy, a wife, a housekeeper, a cook, a decorator, a crafter and a blogger. My blog is a collection of everything that I enjoy from DIY projects, home decor, crafts and recipes to fun activities for the kids and our own family experiences. Hence my blog name: Scissors & Spatulas: And Everything in Between! When you visit my site, you never know what you’re gonna get! One thing I can tell you is that just about everything I do is on a budget.

I’m thrilled to be here at Freckles Crafts! I had the privilege of meeting Rebecca out in Arizona this past April for the Creative Estates conference. Above is Rebecca and I with {the amazing} Jen from Tatertots and Jello and {the coolest, sweetest girl you will ever meet} Sheila {aka Joon} from The Adventures of Ordy and Joon.

Can you believe that summer is coming to an end? Can you believe that it’s time to go back to school? Are your kids ready? Are you ready? I was a kindergarten teacher and I know how apprehensive kids can be those first few weeks of school.

Today I’d like to share with you a cute and easy way to bring a smile to your child’s face by reminding them {halfway through the day} that you are thinking about them.

Start with a regular lunchbox {if your child has an insulated lunchbox, see below for an alternative method}.

Tape around the edges of the lid and cover the rest of the lunch box with a plastic bag.

Use chalkboard spray paint to cover the inside of the lid. Once the first coat is dry, spray with a second coat and allow to dry overnight with the lid open.
**If your child has an insulated lunchbox: Cut a piece of vinyl to fit the inside of the lid. Before attaching, spray paint the vinyl with chalkboard paint.   Allow the vinyl to dry overnight. Peel adhesive backing off and place on inside of lid.   Use a flat edge to smooth out any bubbles.**

Get out your chalk and start writing. Any little message will put a smile on their face. Tell them what you will do together after school or just simply tell them you love them.

Now pack your baby a healthy lunch and send them off to school! They will be surprised at lunchtime when they open up their box and get a little reminder of how much you love them. ;)

My Little Man # 1 {Jack} is ready for his first day of 3-year-old preschool! It’s hard to believe that in just two more years he will be in kindergarten. Where does the time go? I hope everyone enjoyed their summer vacation. Hope your little one’s first day back to school is a success!
Thanks again to Rebecca for having me today! I’d love for you to stop by my blog and snoop around a bit. I promise, there is a little something for everyone over at Scissors & Spatulas: And Everything in Between!

  1. That is SUCH a fabulous idea! I love it!! I thought I remember hearing about chalkboard vinyl once… that would make it way too easy for the insulated ones. :)
