So little Johnny approaches you and says (in his sweetest give me what I want voice) “can we make a craft together”? Your heart melts, and you quickly begin to have visions of crafting, bonding and snuggling with your baby, right?
Then reality hits- you spend the next twenty minutes running around the house trying to locate the paint, scissors, paper, glue, etc. By the time you get to to the crafting, Johnny has lost interest and you are now cranky from the time wasted locating all of the materials.
Enter the simple solution! A craft cabinent! Yes my friends, all of your craft supplies in one place, neatly organized, and easy for your kids to help themselves when creative inspiration strikes!
Think it can’t be done??? Below is what I started with, and I am telling you IT CAN BE DONE!
Here is what you do!
Step 1: Clear out a kitchen cabinet. If kitchen space is at a premium then get creative with some pantry space, drawer in your media cabinet, or even a rolling cart you can keep in the coat closet. The key is to find a space that is located in close proximity to where the crafting will take place.
Step 2: Start by purging all of the supplies that are broken, not working, dried up, or no longer loved. Group the remaining like items together and sort into bins. My favorite bins are the lidded bins from IKEA. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and are perfect for holding a lot of supplies.
Step 3: Label the bins. I can not stress this enough, because if you don’t, your kids will drag every last supply out of the cabinet in order to find what they are looking for (and that usually means reorganizing for mom or dad). Use a picture, a label maker, or as I have in this case, chalkboard vinyl I had left over from this project. I love the chalkboard vinyl because as your storage needs change you can relabel the bins without a lot of hassle.
Step 4: The grand finale! Place everything back into your cabinet and reward yourself with some downtime. You deserve it for being such a great and {organized} parent!
{See I told you it could be done!}
Where do you keep your kids craft supplies?

We use plastic see through tubs and baskets in a closet for everyday craft supplies. Stuff we dont use often is on a book shelf in the basement in various containers. I love the clean/uncluttered look of your labeled containers. Much nicer than my see through ones.
Love those bins! Great blog, stopping by from Bliss@Home to follow and say HI
What great ideas! You are motivating me to get organized! Thanks (:

I just used plastic tubs with labels to organize our toy area and my seven year old told me this morning how much he likes it — he can find what he wants & can put it away. Yay!
Our craft supplies are in two places right now and really need to merge. I love the idea of claiming a kitchen cupboard for all the goodies. Thanks for sharing!
