A year ago today I opened Freckles Crafts. It was one of the most exciting days of my life, and it could not have been possible without the support of my loving family, wonderful friends and amazing customers! Thank you for continuing to support my little shop and making this last year so successful.

Tuesday Treats- Smoothie Style
Now that it is warming up outside (we are in the 40′s woohoo!), it is time for me to break out my blender and start making one of my favorite treats, homemade smoothies!!! I just love a good smoothie! I have several different recipes, however this is my favorite! My kids love it and it is an easy way to sneak some fruit and vitamins into their day.
Grab the following:
- frozen fruit (I used 1 cup of organic blueberries and 1 cup of organic tropical blend)
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 banana
- Options: for a vegetarian option replace the yogurt with silken tofu. If you want to make this a meal then add a couple scoops of protein powder.
Add your ingredients to the blender (adding the orange juice first makes it blend easier).
Put the lid on your blender or you will have a big mess (I am not admitting to this has happened to me before. Hypothetically speaking, if you leave the top off the blender and hit the on button, you may end up with smoothie all over your ceiling. I’m just sayin’, ahem). Anyhoo, Blend on high until smooth.
Poor into a nice tall glass and enjoy! Yummo!
How to Celebrate National Craft Month
Learn something new- have you ever wanted to learn how to sew, crochet, or work with clay? Take a class. You can find classes at your local library, community center or craft stores such as JoAnn Fabric and Crafts or Michaels.
Share your craft genius- are you a master at painting? Do your jewelry designs steal the show? Share your special craft skills by teaching others. Don’t be limited by the walls of a classroom. Online resources such as YouTube are a great way to share your skills.
Sign up to be a vendor at a local craft fair. Craft fairs are a great place to showcase your work, get feedback on your craft wares and make a little extra spending cash to boot! Check your local newspaper, Craigslist, or even flyers at your craft store for a listing of craft fairs in your area.
Turn your hobby into a business! If you have been toying with the idea of moving from a hobby crafter to starting your own business, March is a great month to take that leap. I should know…March is the one year anniversary of Freckles Crafts!
Get a head start on your gifts for Christmas- Come December when my calendar is completely full and I have to fit in time to make gifts; life can get a little stressful. I always wish I would have started much earlier. Start now and by Christmas you will be able to just sit back and enjoy a stress free gifting season!
Go on a craft retreat- crafting while on vacation…um need I say more? There are a lot of options from scrapbook weekends to crafting cruises. A simple Google search will provide you with many options to choose from.
Clean out your craft stash- yes, I know, this does not sound like a celebration. Trust me though, after you have a clean craft room to create in (and room for new supplies, heheh) you will be doing a little happy dance. The best part is if you donate your unwanted craft supplies to a women’s shelter, school, or church, you will be aiding in their crafty celebration!
Craft for a cause- Use your craft super powers to help others! Try making pillowcases for the 1million pillowcase challenge, or scrapbook for Charity Wings. In the wake of the recent events in Japan there are several craft groups selling items to raise money for charity as well as a sew along event to aid the children of Japan.
Finish a project- have you had a project looming for a long time? I have many! What better time than National Craft Month to tackle that project and feel the satisfaction of a job completed!
Speaking of National Craft Month, have you entered my contest yet? It ends soon. Win a year of craft kits! Details here!
