The Power of Small Business Teamwork

Self employment has so many perks; being your own boss, controlling your own hours, and the feeling of success that comes from building a business and following your passions.  While this is all true, it can also be very lonely.  Often when we start a business from scratch we do it on our own.  There is no team of employees or partners to draw inspiration and support from.  I found that while I enjoyed working for myself and controlling every aspect of my business, I missed the camaraderie and teamwork that I had when working in a traditional office setting.  I began searching online for groups of like minded individuals who were also working from home, running a small business while juggling family, and managing a household.

Enter Mommy Perks!  This community is made up of amazing small business owners all working toward the same goals; to provide for their families, follow their passions, and make a difference in their communities.  I love being a part of this talented group of women.  While we are spread out across the globe we are close knit, always willing to offer advice, feedback and support to each other.  It has made a world of difference in my business this past year and I would encourage any small business owner who is just starting out, or who may be searching for support to find a network to belong to.

I am trilled to introduce you to a few of my closest Mommy Perks friends.

 Mommy Perks  Founded back in 2005, Mommy Perks is a tight knit community: parents, grandparents, business owners and more. We love welcoming new folks to the fold and look forward to continued relationships, long term friendships and small business teamwork. Here are a few of the businesses you’ll find on the Mommy Perks site, each working together to support the rest.

Little Journey’s World:  This website focuses on offering multicultural products for babies, children and parents. Many products are hand made by Caroline and are highly affordable. From gift bags and aprons to credit card holders and onesies – there’s something special here, no doubt. Check out the Western Line, also!

Crafty Baby:   Hand made clutch balls, nap packs, bibs, blankets, art smocks and more. Jill has been sewing since the age of 4, when her grandmother began teaching her the trade. Wholesale and bulk discounts are available for business owners, shops and licensed child care facilities.

 Slimy Bookworm:   This mother-son run website lists books for children ages birth-12. Everything has been deemed family friendly by Bola and her partner in business. Board books, picture books and chapter books – you’ll find them here. A portion of all proceeds are donated to inner-city literacy efforts.

GagaGouGou:   Are you looking for top notch clothing, cloth diapering products, toys and shoes? Iris has done the research for you and has listed the best-of-the-best. This online boutique stocks high quality, useful products with an eco-friendly focus.

Find Me Book:   Move over “Where’s Waldo?” A new search-and-find book has emerged! Choose 6 images and 11 scenes: soft cover or hard cover. Kinzie created this personalized concept after seeing her children hiding behind shelves in the family garage. “Ah hah!” The light bulb went on and Find Me Book was born.  {A Find Me Book was recently shipped to Christina Applegate, for her new daughter Sadie}

Peacock Pottery:   Are you seeking a lovely, hand painted, unique gift or housewarming present? Leah is one of a handful of people, in the USA, selling this line of pottery – direct from Poland. Collector pieces, dinnerware and jewelry; you’ll find it here!

The Boy’s Store Boy, oh boy. With so many girly websites and businesses on the market, where do you go to find something just for the BOYS? Suzanne can tell you: The Boy’s Store! Books, accessories, shoes and clothing – name brand products at affordable prices.

Barefoot Books:   Are you seeking books that teach your children about science, culture, the arts and more? Barefoot Books offers a collection of stories that are TV-character-free. Holiday and theme-related books are also available. Email Amy for a discount code!

Stella & Dot:   From stylish and classy to bold and stand-out, this jewelry line is loved by teens, mothers, grandmothers and many celebrities. Tracy began selling this line after a job loss, in order to create income for her family. She is now growing in sales, speaker and trunkshow host.

Stop by Mommy Perks to find more small businesses and products: where we work together to help each other succeed!
